Common skin conditions on the face

Are you unsure if you are suffering from a skin condition in your face? Then read below for more information about common skin conditions I see in my skin practice in Haarlem. Should I see things I don't trust, I can advise you well whether or not to consult a doctor. With that, it is always advisable to have a free skin scan to determine which skin disease we are dealing with.

  • Acne, these are (red) pimples with a white or yellow head and/or blackheads. Often there is a secondary infection of bacteria. Here there is clogging of the pores due to excessive sebum production. Often this is during puberty but this can also occur later in life. Read more about acne treatment here.

  • Flushing, sudden appearance of red spots/red skin. Is accompanied by feelings of warmth and sweating. This is a physical reaction to (intense) emotions or a result of menopause.

  • Rosacea, sudden onset of redness, bumps and/or dilated blood vessels. Rosacea lasts longer than redness. An annoying skin condition with no apparent cause. Is more common in light skin types and may be hereditary. Can be triggered by alcohol and sun, among other things.
  • Eczema, red (dry) spots on the face. Slight peeling and sometimes itching. This is often hereditary and stems from an allergic reaction to an irritant. Think alcohol or perfume.

  • Melasma, dark spots on the upper lip, cheeks and/or temples. Occurs as a result of changes in hormones combined with sunlight. Often occurs after starting the pill and during pregnancy (pregnancy mask).

  • Vitiligo, decolorized milky white spots. Here there is destruction of pigment cells.

Can you treat all skin conditions in Haarlem?

I can't perform miracles but certain skin conditions can be reduced a lot. For example, a skin condition such as flushing is not much to do. But do you suffer from redness in your face?
